The History of AMC

 

Anesthesia Medical Consultants

  • Formed January 1999 as a result of the merger of two long established practices of the former Spectrum Health Hospitals through a cooperative managerial decision between hospital, physician and management with superior patient service in mind.  Those original practices were:
    • Anesthesia Services of Grand Rapids (ASGR) and…
    • Associated Anesthesia of Grand Rapids (AAGR).
  • In 1999 staff included 50 physicians and 21 nurse anesthetists and practicing at 2 hospitals and 5 outpatient sites.
  • Today the number of clinical providersexceeds 80 physicians and 35 nurse anesthetists serving 5 hospitals and 9 outpatient sites.
  • Spectrum Health continues to be the largest hospital served.
    • A large tertiary care, teaching and referral system with over 900 beds located on two campuses including a heart center and children’s hospital.
  • July 2004 AMC began providing services at Zeeland Community Hospital
    • A 57 bed community hospital.
  • September 2006 AMC began providing services at Spectrum Health United Memorial
    • A 65-bed facility in Greenville.
  • August 2008 AMC began proving services at Metropolitan Hospital
    • A 208-bed facility

AMC continues to strive to work with the hospitals in the communities they serve to provide the highest quality comprehensive anesthesia care and the highest patient satisfaction.
